Privacy policy

Wakeletics is an alarm clock you answer by completing camera-verified squats or push-ups. This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled by the current Wakeletics app for iPhone (the App) and, in section 18, by this website.

This policy applies to the local-only Version 1 release of the App. It does not describe future account, cloud, friend, Circle, social leaderboard, or online challenge features that are not available in this release. We will update this policy before any version that handles information differently is released.

1. Who we are

The App is provided by Wakeletics (referred to as “Wakeletics”, “we”, “us”, or “our”).

2. The short version

The current App has no Wakeletics account, no Wakeletics server, no advertising, and no tracking. Information used by the App is processed and stored locally on your iPhone. Wakeletics does not automatically transmit that information to us, and we cannot access it.

Information leaves your device only when you explicitly choose to share or export something through an Apple system feature or a third-party service you select, or when you contact us yourself.

3. Information stored on your iPhone

The App may keep the following information locally so its features work:

• Alarms: time, repeat days, selected exercise, repetition target, backup alarm-chain settings, and selected sound.
• Morning and workout history: exercise, verified repetitions, scheduled time, start and finish times, and whether a morning was completed.
• Progress: information derived locally from workout history, including streaks, Wake Points, levels, achievements, statistics, and personal weekly challenges.
• Settings: onboarding state, exercise and repetition preferences, evening reminder settings, appearance choices, permission status displayed by the App, and the name of the selfie effect you used last.
• Optional profile information: a display name and profile photo if you add them. A selected profile photo is decoded and re-encoded locally so source metadata such as GPS location, capture date, and camera details is not kept in the App’s copy.
• Optional custom sounds: a voice recording you create or a supported audio file you import as a wake sound. The App stores a processed local copy, its name, type, creation date, and duration.
• Widgets: if you add a Wakeletics widget, a small summary — upcoming alarms, your streak, and which recent days were completed — is kept in a storage area shared only with the widget, and is shown on your Home Screen or Lock Screen, where anyone who can see your iPhone can see it.
• Wakeletics Pro status: the App receives locally verifiable entitlement information from Apple’s StoreKit so it can determine whether Pro features are available.

This information is used only to provide the features you request. It is not uploaded to a Wakeletics server.

4. Camera, pose processing, and face effects

The App uses the camera for two separate, user-visible purposes: counting your repetitions during a workout, and taking an optional selfie for a share card.

Workout verification

During a workout, camera frames are analysed on your iPhone using Apple’s Vision technology to estimate body-joint positions and count squats or push-ups. Frames and temporary pose information are processed in memory and discarded. Workout video and camera frames are not recorded, written to disk, saved to Photos, sent to Wakeletics, or sent to a cloud vision service. The App keeps only the workout result needed for your local history and progress.

Optional selfie and face effects

If you deliberately open Share Studio and tap Take a selfie, the App opens the front camera within the App and shows a live preview with optional face effects (for example a sleep cap, a halo, or make-up). The camera is active only while that screen is open.

To place an effect on your face, the App uses Apple’s on-device face-tracking technologies: ARKit face tracking and, for some effects (for example make-up, or an effect drawn behind or around your head), Apple’s Vision framework. On an iPhone where ARKit face tracking is not available, Vision is used on its own. The face data used for this is:

• the position, orientation, and shape of your face and the position and direction of your eyes (ARKit), and landmark points outlining features such as your eyes, eyebrows, nose, lips, and jaw (Vision);
• facial-expression values, such as whether your eyes are open, your mouth is open, or you are smiling, so an effect can move with your face;
• for some effects, an outline that separates you from the background (Vision), so an effect can be drawn behind or around you.

This face data:

• is used only to draw the effect you selected on the camera preview and on the photo you take;
• is processed only on your iPhone, in memory, one camera frame at a time, and discarded as soon as that frame has been drawn — it is not written to disk, logged, or retained;
• is never sent to Wakeletics or to anyone else, and is not shared with third parties;
• is not used for face recognition, identification, authentication, advertising, analytics, profiling, or training, and is not used to create a biometric template.

The selfie you take is kept in memory while you edit your share card and is discarded when you close Share Studio. It is not automatically saved to Photos or uploaded by Wakeletics; it leaves the App only if you share or save the card yourself (section 6). The App remembers the name of the last effect you used so it can open with it next time. It does not keep the photo or any face data.

Choosing an existing photo

You may also tap Choose photo and select an existing image through Apple’s photo picker. The App receives only the item you select; it does not request access to browse your entire photo library.

Neither use of the camera involves face recognition: Wakeletics never tries to identify who you are and does not create a biometric identity profile.

5. Microphone and imported audio

The App requests microphone access only after you deliberately choose to record a custom wake sound and tap Record. Recording stops when you stop it or when the displayed recording limit is reached. The processed alarm sound remains on your iPhone and is not uploaded by Wakeletics.

If you import an audio file, Apple’s document picker lets you select the file. The App processes and stores a local alarm-compatible copy. The original remains where you selected it and is controlled by you and the relevant storage provider.

6. Share cards and user-initiated sharing

Share cards are rendered on your device from information you choose to include, such as a workout result, streak, display name, profile photo, or a photo selected for that card. Wakeletics does not automatically publish or upload a share card.

When you tap Share, Apple’s share sheet shows the apps and services available on your device. Nothing is sent until you choose a destination and confirm the share. The selected recipient, app, or service then handles the shared content under its own privacy policy. Wakeletics does not control that third party’s use of information you choose to share.

If you choose Save Image in the share sheet, iOS asks once for permission to add photos to your library. This permission is add-only: the App saves the card you chose and cannot view or read the rest of your photo library.

7. Alarms, notifications, and paired Apple devices

Wake alarms and their disclosed backup rings are scheduled locally through Apple’s AlarmKit. The optional evening reminder uses local notifications. No Wakeletics server sends these alarms or notifications.

Apple’s operating systems may display or allow control of a system alarm on a paired Apple Watch. This is system interoperability provided by Apple, not a separate Wakeletics watchOS app and not a transfer of your workout history to a Wakeletics server.

8. Wakeletics Pro and payments

Wakeletics Pro is offered through Apple’s in-app purchase system. Apple processes the purchase, renewal, cancellation, refund, and payment method. Wakeletics does not receive your payment-card or bank details from the App Store.

The App uses StoreKit to obtain product information and determine whether a verified Wakeletics Pro entitlement is active. Apple may provide developers with sales, subscription, and diagnostic reporting under Apple’s own terms. Wakeletics does not operate a separate billing server for this release.

9. Apple services, backups, and diagnostics

Local App data may be included in an iCloud or computer backup if you enable device backups. Those backups are controlled through your Apple Account and are handled by Apple under Apple’s policies.

Wakeletics does not include a third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDK. Apple may process App Store analytics, purchase information, and diagnostics according to your Apple settings and Apple’s privacy policy. Data collected by Apple as the platform provider is controlled by Apple, not Wakeletics.

10. What the current App does not collect

The current App does not contain a Wakeletics account, backend, advertising SDK, tracking SDK, third-party analytics SDK, or third-party crash-reporting SDK. It does not transmit the following to Wakeletics:

• camera frames, workout video, or temporary pose data;
• face data used for selfie effects, including face geometry, facial landmarks, expression values, or background-separation outlines;
• your profile photo, selfie, or share-card photo;
• voice recordings or imported audio;
• alarm times, workout history, streaks, statistics, or challenges;
• precise or approximate location;
• contacts, HealthKit data, or Motion & Fitness data;
• advertising identifiers or cross-app tracking data.

Wakeletics does not sell personal information and does not use App information for advertising or profiling.

11. Retention and deletion

Local information remains on your iPhone until it is replaced or until you delete it. You can remove it in either of these ways:

• Settings → Delete all data: cancels scheduled Wakeletics alarms and the evening reminder, then deletes alarms, pending wake events, workout history, settings, profile information, profile photo, custom sounds, and the widget summary stored by the App.
• Delete the App: removes the App and information in its local container. This does not cancel an App Store subscription; subscriptions are managed separately through your Apple Account.

Apple-controlled transaction history, device backups, or content you previously shared to another service are not controlled by Wakeletics and are not removed by the App’s local deletion function.

Because Wakeletics does not receive your local App information, we cannot view, export, correct, or delete that information remotely.

12. Permissions and withdrawing permission

You can withdraw camera, microphone, photo-library (add-only), notification, or alarm permission at any time in iOS Settings. Features that require a withdrawn permission may stop working, but withdrawing a permission does not upload or disclose your existing local information. You may also delete individual profile or sound content in the App where that control is available, or use Delete all data.

13. If you contact us

If you email us, we receive the email address, message, and attachments you choose to send. We use them only to respond, investigate the issue, protect the App, or comply with applicable law. Email is handled by our email service provider and is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for those purposes. You may request deletion of a support conversation by emailing wakeletics@gmail.com, subject to legal record-keeping obligations.

Do not send camera footage, health information, identification documents, or other sensitive information unless it is genuinely necessary for the support request.

14. Children

Wakeletics is not directed to children under 13. The current App does not knowingly collect personal information from children or from any other user. Parents or guardians should supervise exercise and decide whether the App is appropriate for a child in their care.

15. Security

Wakeletics minimizes risk by keeping App information on the device and using Apple system protections and pickers. No method of storage is completely secure, so you should protect your iPhone and Apple Account with appropriate security settings.

16. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect a new App version, legal requirement, or change in how information is handled. We will change the effective date above and, where appropriate, provide notice in the App. We will update this policy before releasing account, backend, analytics, advertising, tracking, or social data features that would make the current description inaccurate.

18. This website

wakeletics.com and wakeletics.app do not use advertising cookies, do not run cross-site tracking, and do not ask you for personal information. They are hosted by Vercel, which processes standard request data such as IP address and browser user agent to deliver the pages and protect them from abuse.

We count visits and measure page speed with Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights. Neither sets cookies or follows you to other sites; they report aggregate page views, referrers, country, device type and loading times. The site remembers in your browser’s local storage that you have closed the notice about these terms or the announcement bar, and nothing else. None of this is a cookie, and none of it leaves your browser.
