Wakeletics

How it works

How Wakeletics works

One loop, four moving parts. Here is what actually happens between the alarm going off and the morning counting.

Before you sleep

Setting the alarm is the only part that needs a decision, so it happens the night before, while you are still capable of making one.

Time and days

Pick the hour and which days it repeats. Weekdays only, every day, or a single one-off.

Movement

Push-ups or squats. This is a preference, not a rule about who you are — either one can be your default and you can change it per alarm.

Target

How many reps. Ten is a solid morning. Start at five if you are new to this; the app will not push you toward a number you should not be doing sixty seconds after waking up.

Sound

A Wakeletics tone, a message you record yourself, or the system default. Whatever you choose, the alarm always keeps a reliable local sound as its fallback.

What happens at 6:30

  1. The alarm fires

A system alarm, built on the framework Apple ships for this exact job. It appears on the Lock Screen and is able to cut through silent mode and Focus. You do not need Wakeletics open, or even recently used, for it to arrive.

  2. You land on the workout screen

Acting on the alarm takes you straight into the workout gate. There is no home screen to browse, no feed, no settings — one screen, your camera, and the number you have to reach.

  3. The camera finds you

Prop the phone against a wall, a book, anything. The app tells you plainly what it needs: MOVE BACK, FULL BODY, TOO DARK. When it can see enough to judge a rep, it says READY, and not before.

  4. Reps count

Each valid repetition lands with a haptic tick and a tone, so you can keep your head down and still know it registered. Partial reps do not move the counter and it will not pretend otherwise.

  5. Morning earned

Hit the target and the session is logged, the streak advances, and anything you share with a Wake Circle syncs. By this point you are upright, warm and past the moment where going back to bed was realistic.

What happens if you stop it early

You can always silence the alarm. iOS guarantees a way to stop a sounding alert, and an alarm you genuinely could not switch off would be unsafe — imagine it firing during a hospital stay, or in someone else's home.

What you cannot do is get credit for it. Stop before the target and the session is recorded as incomplete. The streak resets to zero, the morning does not count toward any challenge, and anyone in your Wake Circle sees the gap where your morning should have been.

That is the entire mechanism, and it is enough. The point was never to physically trap you. It was to make the easy option cost something.

The emergency exit

There is an explicit emergency action on the workout screen, reachable at any moment and without hunting for it. It ends the session immediately — no reps, no confirmation maze. The morning is logged incomplete and the streak resets, because the record stays honest, but you are never stuck. Injury, illness, an actual emergency, a room where using a camera is not appropriate: all real, all handled.

FAQ

Do I need to keep the app open overnight?
No. The alarm is scheduled with the system, so it fires whether or not Wakeletics is running.
What if I have more than one alarm?
Each alarm carries its own movement, target and sound. A gentle five-rep weekday alarm and a heavier weekend one can coexist.
Can I use it without an account?
Yes. Alarms, rep counting, history and your streak all work locally. An account is only needed for the social side — friends, Wake Circles and challenges.
